Grand Funk Railroad at Summer Motion!

Thanks to a college friend, I was recommended and hired by a production company (Platinum Video) to help film the concerts for Summer Motion during the 4th of July week.

It was 4 nights and $100 a night to work it.

I was the camera operator on stage right each night while my friend was on stage left.

Basically, we filmed the concerts for the big screens being shown for the audience that were way in the back.

It was a lot of fun.

I only remember two of the bands:  Grand Funk Railroad (a favorite) and The Lovin’ Spoonful.

The Lovin’ Spoonful were very good, but HOLY COW, Grand Funk Railroad were PHENOMENAL!!

Original members Don Brewer (Vocals/Drums) and Mel Schacher (Bass), along with newer singer at the time Max Carl, Keyboardist Tim Cashion, and Guitarist Bruce Kulick (KISS, Blackjack, Meat Loaf, Michael Bolton, Union, solo artist) rocked the place!!!

I was standing near Tim and he gave me a lot of acknowledgements and when Bruce played the Star Spangled Banner on guitar, I was able to film that because he came to my side of the stage.

He gave me a thumbs up at the end of the show.

Being a HUGE KISS fan, that was a big deal to me.

Unbeknownst to me, my Aunt Kim Keffer, who was working the show on behalf of Ohio University Southern Campus (my alma mater) got Bruce to sign a Union DVD and later gave it to me as a birthday present.

Thank you Kim!!!!

I’m typing this in 2023 so I don’t remember everything from this, but just know it was fun working the show (wish I could’ve kept the footage) and it was really awesome seeing Grand Funk that up close.
