My Black Sabbath Album Rankings

The band Black Sabbath, as far as I and many others are concerned, invented what is now called Heavy Metal music.

I know they don’t agree, but I believe it’s true.

The original lineup of singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward are the creators of sooooooooooo many bands.

They started a lot.

There have been many lineups (Tony Iommi is the one who has always been there.) and I am a fan of all of it.

And I am going to rank their albums here.

  1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
  2. Black Sabbath
  3. Paranoid
  4. Master Of Reality
  5. Reunion
  6. Sabotage
  7. Dehumanizer
  8. Heaven And Hell
  9. Mob Rules
  10. Seventh Star
  11. Vol. 4
  12. Never Say Die
  13. 13
  14. Technical Ecstasy
  15. Black Sabbath The Dio Years (Compilation with 3 new songs)
  16. The Devil You Know (billed as the band Heaven & Hell, but it is Black Sabbath)
  17. The End EP
  18. Forbidden
  19. Born Again
  20. Headless Cross
  21. The Eternal Idol
  22. Cross Purposes
  23. Tyr
  24. Live At Radio City Music Hall (billed as the band Heaven & Hell, but it is Black Sabbath)
  25. Neon Nights:  Live at Wacken 2009 (billed as the band Heaven & Hell, but it is Black Sabbath)
  26. Live at Hammersmith Odeon
  27. Live Evil
  28. Past Lives (AKA Live At Last)
  29. Cross Purposes Live
  30. The End:  Live In Birmingham/The Angelic Sessions
  31. Live…Gathered In Their Masses

Doing rankings like this are tough, and even the lower ones are not terrible.  It’s just that I like the ones ranked higher more.

And I could always change my mind, but this is my ranking right here and right now.

What do you think?  How would you rank them?  Let me know.

I love Black Sabbath.  Every album and lineup is important.
