Maximum Rock: Motley Crue/Scorpions Concert Review

This was my 2nd concert ever.

And my first time going to what I now like to call my home away from home.

A band I had never heard of before or since opened.

Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue actually introduced them.

I remember them being ok, but I was there to see the other two band.

And wow they did not disappoint.

    Scorpions just BLEW ME AWAY!!

So loud.  High energy, especially from guitarist Rudolf Schenker.  Just ROCK!!

    I was 10th row center.

They were touring what is now considered their least favorite and one of their least known albums, Eye II Eye.

Personally, I love it.  I bought it right when it was released and ate it up.

It’s still my favorite Scorpions album and I’m sure the only person on this planet that will say that.  But I don’t care because I love it.

They played two songs off it, but also played a lot of their hits.  Surprisingly, no Wind Of Change, which is one of their biggest songs.

    But hey, I wasn’t complaining.

They just totally blew me away.

Of all the bands I’ve seen live, they are definitely one of the best.

They were going to be hard, if not impossible, to top that night.

But Motley Crue did a great show too.

At this point, Drummer Tommy Lee was not in the band anymore and was doing his Methods Of Mayhem project (which I really like).

So, they had Drummer Randy Castillo playing for them.

He’s known for playing drums for Ozzy Osbourne.

Sadly, Randy passed away in 2002, but boy, he was a great drummer.

The rest of the band were original members Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Sixx.

Motley were re-releasing their albums at this point, so they were playing a lot of hits and some cool deep album cuts too on this tour.

Motley are one of my favorite bands of all time, and as I type this in 2023, I’ve seen them 8 times.

    Wow, what a second concert.
