Grand Funk Railroad Discography Rankings

I love the band Grand Funk Railroad.

They were one of the biggest bands of the 1970s, and for some reason, their popularity did not stay as high.

I guess it’s because they broke up a few times, but to me, they should be as big as Led Zeppelin or anyone.

They certainly were in the 70s.

They sold out Shea Stadium faster than The Beatles did in the 1960s.  That’s HUGE!!

They’re still around today with original members Don Brewer (Drums/Vocals) and Mel Schacher (Bass), although original lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Mark Farner has his own group now.

Both are still great though and if you are a fan, you should go see them.

Grand Funk has not released any new music in many years, but Mark is still making albums, having released a new album in 2024 (review here) that I recommend checking out, as well as his other solo albums.

But hey, I’m here to talk about Grand Funk Railroad’s (sometimes just called Grand Funk) albums.

I love most of them and I’ve ranked these with my girlfriend before (she loves the band too) but I’ve not ranked them on this website.  So here it goes.

  1. Grand Funk
  2. Closer To Home
  3. On Time
  4. Shinin’ On
  5. Born To Die
  6. Grand Funk Lives
  7. What’s Funk
  8. We’re An American Band
  9. Survival
  10. E Pluribus Funk
  11. Live Album
  12. Caught In The Act
  13. Good Singin’ Good Playin’
  14. Bosnia
  15. 30 Years of Funk (compilation featuring 3 new songs, actually the last new songs the band has released to date)
  16. Phoenix
  17. Live:  The 1971 Tour

That was tough (I know I say that on all of these.) but there it is.

One of the biggest bands that should still be as big as they were because they still are great.

Grand Funk Railroad.  Mark, Don, and Mel rule!! Listen to their music.  You won’t regret it.
