Slowhand & a Thunderbird: Eric Clapton/Jimmie Vaughan Concert Review
- Date of Concert: September 21, 2021
- Location of Concert: Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN
I never thought I could say this but I FINALLY saw Eric Clapton in concert. He played at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.Jimmie Vaughan (Stevie Ray Vaughan’s older brother and also a member of The Fabulous Thunderbirds) opened the show with a very rocking set of songs. He and his band really cook. Fun set. Then came Slowhand himself.Regardless of the controversy of his opinion of vaccines these days, which I highly disagree with him on, I still think he is a phenomenal talent and he lets the music do the talking. His band is great (Paul Carrack, ex singer of Mike And The Mechanics, Squeeze, and Ace as well as a solo artist) is one of his keyboard players and sings lead on the last song of the set.) and he lets everyone in the band shine. He played hits, blues songs, an acoustic set, and jammed a lot.He still kicks butt.I’m glad I finally saw him.Jimmie Vaughan and even Marcus King (a young star on the rise) jammed with Eric and his band at the end.Again, I never thought I would ever see Eric because he hasn’t really toured, aside from doing a handful of shows, in the last several years. So I figured I better make the drive to Nashville (roughly 6 hours from my house). Well worth it.My next concert is Alice Cooper and Ace Frehley next Tuesday.More to come.Eric Clapton Band Members:

Shining On!!-Grand Funk Railroad Concert Review
- Date of Concert: September 4, 2021
- Location of Concert: Portsmouth, OH
- Opener: Moving In Stereo (The Cars tribute band)
For the first time since 2005, I saw Grand Funk Railroad. I last saw them when I worked Summer Motion in Ashland, Kentucky and this time I saw them at Portsmouth River Days in Portsmouth, Ohio.Founding member/singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Farner is not in the band anymore (solo artist), but founding drummer/singer/songwriter Don Brewer and founding bassist Mel Schacher are still in the band. The band also includes singer/guitarist Max Carl, keyboardist Tim Cashion, and last but not least, lead guitarist Bruce Kulick formerly of KISS Blackjack, Union, Meat Loaf, solo artist, and more. They played a rocking 75-80 minute set, playing all their hits like We’re An American Band, Some Kind Of Wonderful, their version of The Loco-Motion, I’m Your Captain/Closer To Home, and more. They even had a drum solo and guitar solo (Bruce played The Star Spangled Banner!!!!!).This band was one of the most popular bands of the 70s. They even sold out Shea Stadium in NYC faster than The Beatles did.Hopefully someday the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame will finally induct them.I miss Mark but they still kick butt and they’re all awesome! And being a big KISS fan, I love that Bruce is in the band.He did spot me (I was wearing a KISS Hot In The Shade album shirt, which is from his era of the band), and he threw me a guitar pick. Thank you Bruce!!!!!What a fun show.Opening the show was Moving In Stereo, a The Cars tribute band. They were very good too. It’s concerts like this and concerts in general that truly make me happy and feel alive.I hate my life most of the time but when I’m at a concert, I’m free.Hopefully more shows to come soon.I love Grand Funk and I love you Bruce!!!My girlfriend Mariah Startzman is seeing you guys tomorrow.Grand Funk Railroad Band Members:
- Don Brewer (Drums/Vocals)
- Mel Schacher (Bass)

We Are The Last In Line: Last In Line Concert Review
- Date of Concert: August 21, 2021
- Location of Concert: The King Of Clubs in Columbus, OH
I saw a PHENOMENAL rock concert Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio.I saw Last In Line at The KING of CLUBSGreat venue. Great sound.Last In Line consists of Vivian Campbell on guitar, Vinny Appice on drums, Phil Soussan on bass, and Andrew Freeman on vocals. They have done two very good albums (Heavy Crown and Last In Line II) and they have a third one on the way (Edit: Third album called Jericho was later released). It started off as a series of jam sessions with 3 ex Dio band members (Vivian, Vinny, and bassist Jimmy Bain), just to have some fun. They got Andrew Freeman (Lynch Mob, The Offspring, Hurricane) to be the singer and then it became a series of shows just playing the stuff they did on the first 3 Dio albums (Holy Diver, The Last In Line, and Sacred Heart) but they had so much fun and got a great response from fans that they decided to make new music and that’s what they’ve done ever since when they have time because Vivian in particular has been one of Def Leppard’s guitarists since the early 90s and he’s busy, but still LIL is a band on its own too.Unfortunately Jimmy Bain passed away while they were playing on the Def Leppard Cruise, but he is on the first LIL album. They then recruited Phil Soussan, who is known as the bassist for Ozzy Osbourne on his album The Ultimate Sin and the tour for that album. And he wrote the song Shot In The Dark from that album.Anyway, all phenomenal musicians and Andrew Freeman is a phenomenal singer and he does the Dio songs justice. They played Dio songs and songs from their two albums.Phenomenal show. They sounded great. They had fun.And the audience had fun.My next concert (if the world doesn’t shut down again) is KISS September 2 in Dayton, Ohio. (Edit: this show ultimately happened in 2022.)And I have more events after that, if the world doesn’t shut down again.Last In Line Set List:
- Landslide
- Stand Up & Shout
- Straight Through The Heart
- Year Of The Gun
- Holy Diver
- Blackout The Sun
- Last In Line
- Starmaker
- Electrified
- Egypt (The Chains Are On)
- Rainbow In The Dark
- Don’t Talk To Strangers
- Devil In Me
- We Rock

Concert of the Year: Mammoth WVH w/Plush Concert Review
- Date of Concert: August 7, 2021
- Location of Concert: The House Of Blues Cleveland in Cleveland, OH
- Opener: Plush
My pick em for my concert of the year (yes I have more awesome ones to see this year as long as the world doesn’t shut down), but this is how awesome this show was. With my friend Kevin Montavon, I saw the third ever headline date of Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH.They rocked the House of Blues Cleveland. He’s currently on tour opening for Guns N Roses, but he’s also doing some headline dates.Again, this was headline show number three. He and the band received an incredible response, and they delivered!!!They played most of Wolfgang’s debut album, called Mammoth WVH, it’s Japan bonus track, and an unreleased song.Wolfgang is the real deal.He joined his Dad’s band, Van Halen, at 16 years old (he’s 30 now) as the bass player.Well let me tell you, he can play bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, writes great songs, and is a PHENOMENAL singer. His album is probably going to be my album of the year.I love every song on it, and the bonus track and unreleased song are both great too.Even though he has a great band, his album is solely performed by him.Again, he can do it all, and regardless of who he is related to, he deserves all the success that comes to him.I can’t wait to buy more albums from him in the future and to see him in concert again someday.Rock on Wolfgang!!!!More shows to come.Oh and the opening band Plush, an all girl band, are very good too and I look forward to their debut album (Edit: I did buy it and it’s very good). They played mostly original songs and a Heart cover (Barracuda).Check Plush out too. They are also the real deal.Mammoth WVH Set List:
- Don’t Back Down
- Horribly Right
- Mammoth
- Mr. Ed
- Resolve
- Talk & Walk
- Think It Over
- You’re To Blame
- The Big Picture
- Circles
- Feel
- Stone
- Encore: Distance
- Epiphany
- As Long As You’re Not You
