Two Rocking Bands: Whitesnake and Whitford/St. Holmes Concert Review
- Date of Concert: June 14, 2016
- Location of Concert: PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, OH
My concert summer continued Tuesday.I went to Cincinnati again to see Whitesnake and the opener Whitford/St. Holmes.I’ll get to what happened before the show at the end, but first, I’ll tell you about the show.Whitford/St. Holmes (Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford and Ted Nugent band singer/guitarist Derek St. Holmes) started the show with a 30 minute rocking set of songs from their new album Reunion (they put out another album in the early 80s), and also played a medley of a couple Aerosmith/Ted Nugent songs. It was great to see Brad Whitford out front as guitarist, playing great as always, and even talking to the crowd. In Aerosmith, Brad’s forever in the shadow of Joe Perry. But in my opinion, as great as Joe is, Brad is just as good or better of a guitarist. And he really shines in this band.I have seen him 3 times with Aerosmith, and trust me, he shines there, too.But even more so in this band. And Derek is still a really good singer, too.Very soulful. And he is also a really good guitarist in his own right. This was my first time seeing Derek.I’m glad I finally did.Their band includes drummer Brent Fitz, who has played with Billy Idol, and has been part of Slash’s band in recent years.Their band also includes bassist Chopper Anderson and keyboardist Buck Johnson, who sang a medley of the Aerosmith classic Last Child, which Brad wrote. And Johnson really did a great Steven Tyler impersonation, vocally. It just so happens he plays for Aerosmith too.Really cool set, but I just wish they would have had more time to play.Check out their new album Reunion, which as a bonus, comes with their self titled debut album from the 80s, also.More about Whitford/St. Holmes later on this review.Stick around for it.Now, to the headliner, Whitesnake!!This was my 3rd time seeing them. This has always been lead singer David Coverdale’s group, and has had many great players with him throughout the years.Especially right now.His band includes guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra, bassist Michael Devin, the drumming machine Tommy Aldridge, and keyboardist Michele Luppi. The band did a very tight, loud, and rocking set of the band’s greatest hits.David Coverdale’s voice is still really strong and I could tell he was having a great time, interacting with the crowd and with the band.I love seeing bands not “phone it in”, and I swear neither of these bands did. Both had fun and gave the crowd everything they had.David Coverdale is a great frontman, very witty and funny, and again, such an amazing voice. When he was 20 or 21 years old (he’s 65 now), the legendary rock band Deep Purple, who along with David were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this year, hired him from nowhere and helped him launch his career. If you get a chance, check out the Deep Purple albums that David sings on: Burn, Stormbringer, and Come Taste The Band.In fact, Whitesnake put out a great album last year of some of David’s era of Deep Purple songs, called The Purple Album.Check it out, too.In fact, check out all of David’s catalogue. He’s made a lot of great music.I would go see Whitesnake again anytime. They’re always fun.Check out this tour if you get a chance.Oh and before I forget: I want to tell you about something cool that happened to me before the show. When I was about 10 minutes from the venue, I received a call from Whitford/St. Holmes’ tour manager about meeting them. You see, a few weeks before the show, and several months after I bought my ticket, I also bought a VIP package, in which I would be able to meet Whitford/St. Holmes before the show.Well again, their tour manager called me, and told me where to go, in which he would come and get me and take me to meet them.Well, I showed up at the gate where all the band buses and trucks were located, I called him back saying I was there, and he came out saying they were having dinner, but that when they were ready to meet me, he would come and get me.Well, shortly before I met them, I spotted Brad Whitford coming out of a tour bus, just walking around a little, and smoking a cigarette with the crew.He was looking in my direction, but I figured I’d be respectful and leave him alone until I met him.Well, a few minutes later, the tour manager comes and gets me and takes me to Brad and Derek’s tour bus, and lets me in to meet them. Both Brad and Derek immediately greeted me and were very kind.Brad asked me my name, and I told him my name. And he said “great to meet you Lucas”, and shook my hand.Derek did the same. Both signed their CDs for me that came with the VIP package, as well as a CD bonus track, and an 8×10 pic.I also got guitar picks in the package, and Derek also handed me one of his personal Ted Nugent guitar picks from 2013.He jokingly told me to put it in my pocket real quick before someone else grabbed it.Derek asked me where I was from, and I told him Ashland, Kentucky, and he said “I know where that is.”And, I got 5 pics with them!!!I thanked them for seeing me and I wished them a great show. And they both thanked me and seemed very appreciative, which was great to see.So, if anyone wants to say that they’re jerks, think again. They’re both two genuinely good guys who love what they do and are great at it.Very good experience. In fact, I want to do more VIP visits sometime. Stay tuned!I’ll post pics and setlists from both bands below. My concert tour continues next Tuesday and Wednesday.Stay tuned for more reviews.Rock on!!!!P.S. One more thing: for those of you who have seen the movie This Is Spinal Tap, you will appreciate this. After I met Brad and Derek, and went into the venue, I was going to my seat and saw aside from some venue security, there was no one in the seats.Or on the venue’s lawn. I was wondering what was going on for a second, because there were plenty of people there. But then I remembered that there was another part of the venue where the concert was happening. So yes, I had a Spinal Tap moment. Hahahaha!!! It was great.Ok, here come the setlists and pics:Whitesnake Set List:

Musicanship Extraordinaire: Steely Dan/Steve Winwood Concert Review
- Date of Concert: June 7, 2016
- Location of Concert: Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH
My brother Christopher and I went to Cincinnati, Ohio to see the band Steely Dan and the solo artist Steve Winwood.Steve Winwood opened the show with several songs from throughout his career, ranging from his time with The Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic, and his solo career. His voice is still strong.I had never seen Winwood before, and he did not disappoint. Now to the headliner: Steely DanSome of you know may not know who Steely Dan are. They are made up of two men, singer/keyboardist Donald Fagen and guitarist/bassist Walter Becker. They started off in the early 70s as a band, but quickly became Donald and Walter’s project, in which they brought in several session players to bring their music to life.Actually, an interesting factoid: the actor Chevy Chase played drums for Donald and Walter while all of them were still in college in the 60s.It’s hard to describe their music, but I will describe it as highly sophisticated and elegant jazz/rock.My brother was the one who got me into Steely Dan’s music back in 1998.I finally saw them in 2011, and saw them again Tuesday. They were amazing, as usual.I took several pics, but they did not turn out great. But when you see them below, you’ll get the idea. But anyway, it was another fun experience. We both had fun.I will post Set Lists below, as well.Lucas HannonSteely Dan Set List:

Phenomenal Tribute: Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience Concert Review
- Date of Concert: May 29, 2016
- Location of Concert: Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, OH
Well better late than never…On Sunday, I went to Cincinnati to see a Led Zeppelin tribute band. But it wasn’t just any Led Zeppelin tribute band.It was Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. For those of you who don’t know, Jason Bonham is the son of Led Zeppelin’s drummer John Bonham, who passed away September 25 of 1980.Jason was only 14.Since that time, Jason, who was taught by his Dad to play drums, has had a pretty interesting and varied musical career, ranging from having his own band Bonham, has played in bands such as Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin’s solo group, UFO, Black Country Communion, California Breed, Foreigner, and oh, he has played with Led Zeppelin on most of their one off reunion shows. Most famously, their last show in 2007, which was released on Bluray/DVD/CD called Celebration Day.I cannot recommend it enough. He also, on and off for the past 6 years, has gone on the road to do his own tribute show to his Dad’s band. It’s very good. They do faithful versions of Led Zeppelin songs. The show starts with a video tribute to Jason’s Dad John, with a narration from Jason. Then the show begins.Throughout the show, Jason tells stories about his Dad, his family, and of course, about Led Zeppelin. They played many Zeppelin classics, as well as deep album cuts.I was very close to the stage.Believe it or not, I was so close that when the bass player threw a guitar pick at my direction, it hit my forehead.I looked for it on the floor, but I couldn’t find it lol!But anyway, I had a really fun night.See the show if you get a chance. My next stop on my summer concert tour is Cincinnati again on Tuesday, June 7, when my brother Christopher and I will see Steely Dan and Steve Winwood.More reviews to come.Rock On!Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience Band Members:

Mothertruckers: Sebastian Bach Concert Review
- Date of Concert: May 24, 2016
- Location of Concert: Bogarts in Cincinnati, OH
- Opener: Santa Cruz
I had a great time at Bogarts, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Tuesday night!I went there to see the singer of the rock band Skid Row, Sebastian Bach!He played several Skid Row songs, a few covers, some solo songs, and ROCKED the house!!If you were there, you would know that Sebastian was really having fun and was happy to be there.Sebastian said he had not done a show at Bogarts since 1989!He interacted with his band a lot, and even sang some of the theme to the famous show WKRP In Cincinnati. That was fun.Interestingly enough, he started the show off with several ballads, took about a 10 minute break, and then came back to do his more heavy and rocking songs. It was a lot of fun.The opening band, Santa Cruz, were pretty good, too. They look like an 80s band, but are newer. They formed in 2007, are from Finland, were quite entertaining and kicked butt, also.Anyway, another fun time was had by me.I’ll be back in Cincinnati Sunday night, May 29, to see Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience!!I’ll post a review of it, as well.I hope you enjoyed reading this.More to come.LucasSebastian Bach Band Members:

My Name is On a Documentary!!
Hi everyone.I have something very cool to post, so here it goes:On Friday, I received a very cool and inspiring documentary DVD called The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake.A couple of years ago, one of my favorite professional wrestlers growing up, Jake “The Snake” Roberts (real name Aurelian Smith), reached out for help to another famous wrestler turned fitness expert, Diamond Dallas Page.Jake has had major drug and alcohol problems over the years and really did need help. However, with DDP’s help, Jake was able to make a major and phenomenal turn around in his life.He got clean and got back in shape. And most importantly, he got his life and his family back. This entire process was filmed and was later edited down into a documentary, which has received major buzz and is now starting to finally be seen on home video, ITunes, Google Play, etc.Anyway, to make a long story short, albeit an inspirational one, during this period, Jake needed to undergo shoulder surgery, but did not have insurance or enough money to pay for the surgery, which cost about $8,000.So, DDP came up with this campaign through an organization called Indiegogo, in which people could pitch in money to help pay for Jake’s surgery. And in return, they would get some perks, or prizes, if you will.Depending on how much you paid, you would get anything from a call from Jake, to an autographed picture, DVD with his matches, a shirt, a trip to see and hang out with Jake, and a mention in the documentary credits if it would ever come out.Well, I was one of the people who pitched in, and within the first 24 hours of the Indiegogo campaign being launched, almost all the amount of money it would cost to pay for Jake’s surgery had been raised. For the fee that I paid ($100), I got a personal phone call from Jake (four calls, actually, but more on that shortly), an autographed picture of him, a shirt of him, a DVD with several of his wrestling matches, and my name is on the end credits of the documentary.Pretty cool, I think. Most importantly, though, Jake got the help he needed, and for the most part, has been great ever since.Again, I grew up a fan of his and actually saw him when I was 8 years old at a wrestling show in Huntington, WV.As a fan, I was interested in the perks, of course, but most importantly, I just felt like helping him, even in a small way.I wanted him to get better.Thank goodness, he finally did.Like I said earlier, Jake actually called me not once, but four times, and unfortunately, had to leave a voice mail for three of those calls. This was because I had a bad phone at the time, and I didn’t hear or feel it when it rang. When I did finally pick up the third time, I first apologized to him for my bad phone. He was very nice to me and told me he appreciated my pitching in to help him.I told him I was a lifelong fan and that I was happy for him and proud of him.I actually later met him, too, and told him again how happy and proud I was for him.He thanked me again and complimented me on my shirt (I was wearing the one he sent me).Anyway, even if you are not a wrestling fan, I strongly urge you to seek out this documentary.Once again, it’s called The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake.Trust me, it will inspire you and may even bring a tear to your eye.It certainly did me.Love & Peace,P.S. Here is a picture of the DVD cover of the documentary, a screen shot I took of my name in the list of “thank you” credits at the end of the documentary, and a picture of me with one of my heroes, the man himself, Jake “The Snake” Roberts.Photo Gallery (click on thumbnail to view larger image)

Women Rock!! Halestorm/Lita Ford/Dorothy Concert Review
- Date of Concert: April 5, 2016
- Location of Concert: Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington, WV
Women Rock!!You know why? Because they do.I saw a few awesome women that rock last night at a concert in Huntington, WV.I went to see Halestorm, Lita Ford, and a newer band called Dorothy. All are fronted by women and are all amazing. The band Dorothy started the show with some in your face bluesy hard rock.Great musicianship and their singer Dorothy Martin has an amazing voice. They only have one EP out so far, but I recommend checking them out.Next up was the legendary Lita Ford.As much as I really like Halestorm, seeing Lita was my main reason for going to this concert. As a former member of the all girl group The Runaways and later becoming a successful solo artist, Lita Ford is one of the best at what she does. She sings, writes, and plays guitar. All very well, too.She played many great songs of her catalog, including Kiss Me Deadly, Close My Eyes Forever, Can’t Catch Me (She dedicated this song to co-writer Lemmy Kilmister, the leader of the band Motorhead, who passed away this year), and Back To The Cave, just to name a few.I was glad I finally got to see her.I have now seen two members of The Runaways (I saw Joan Jett last year and will again this summer!!)Her band is very good, too.Especially her drummer, Bobby Rock. For you KISS fans like me, you may know Bobby Rock as the drummer of ex KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent’s band The Vinnie Vincent Invasion. This band also spawned the band Slaughter.Anyway, Lita is still rocking like no other and I hope she never stops. She also just put out a great new book called Living Like A Runaway, and has a new album coming out very soon called Time Capsule.Check them out.Lita Rocks!!!Now to the headliner Halestorm.I had actually seen Halestorm once before in Huntington in 2013 open for Godsmack and Staind.Halestorm just get better and better. They are sooo good. They played many songs from their newest album, Into The Wild Life, as well as other many great songs of theirs. They even played a deep Judas Priest song called Genocide, which is on one of their EPs.The band’s lead singer, Lzzy Hale, is in a league of her own.She is a phenomenal singer, guitarist, and writer.I can honestly say she can sing anything, and it would be amazing. If you have not heard Halestorm or seen them, I cannot recommend them enough. In fact, I recommend checking out all of these artists. They are all great.Again, Women Rock!!!I hope you have enjoyed reading this.More reviews to come this year.Love and Peace,Halestorm Band Members:

I Met Arnold!! Arnold Sports Festival 2016
- Date of Event: March 6, 2016
- Location of Event: Hilton Grand Ballroom in Columbus, OH
Best day ever!!!I went to see one of my biggest heroes, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger, speak at his annual seminar at the Arnold Sports Festival, in Columbus, Ohio. For those of you that don’t know, the Arnold Sports Festival encompasses many different types of competitions.Particularly bodybuilding, but also gymnastics, boxing, MMA, wrestling, and so many more. It’s a 4 day event, in which Arnold started with Ohio businessman Jim Lorimer, back in the mid 70s after Arnold retired the first time as a professional body builder (he competed one more time in 1980 in which he won the Mr. Olympia for a then record 7th time). On the last day of the event, Arnold speaks for roughly an hour or more with a crowd of about 300-400 people about his career, bodybuilding, nutrition, and just motivation in general. He usually takes questions from the audience, but he had to leave after about 50 minutes. He did talk about his upcoming movie 478, The Celebrity Apprentice, which he’s hosting this upcoming season, and he interviewed this year’s winner of The Arnold Classic bodybuilding competition, Kai Greene. But here is the best thing that happened, from my perspective, at least.I was sitting in the front row on an isle seat, and I swear he entered from a doorway right beside my seat!!And before he took the stage, he said “hi how are you?” to me!!! Yes to me.And at the end when he was leaving, I told him, as a fan, that I loved him, and he shook my hand, and said “good to see you”!!!I did not get a selfie, but hey, I’m not complaining.I got to speak to and shake the hand of one of my biggest heroes ever.Maybe next time I will get a selfie, though. Oh yeah!Even though I did not get a selfie, I did take pictures of him, though.I will post them below.I hope you enjoyed reading this almost as much as I did experiencing it.Love and Peace.Photo Gallery (click on thumbnail to view larger image)

That Dirty Dirty Lowdown: Boz Scaggs Concert Review
- Date of Concert: October 27, 2015
- Location of Concert: Keith Albee Performing Arts Center in Huntington, WV
Hi everyone!Well, I just got home from my last concert for awhile. And what a concert it was.I went to the Keith Albee Theater in Huntington, WV to see one of my favorite singers/guitarists Boz Scaggs. He was there as part of the Marshall Artist Series.Boz played for about 90 minutes, had 3 encores, and played many songs from throughout his career. Some of the songs he played include Jojo, Harbor Lights, Look What You’ve Done To Me (from the movie Urban Cowboy), Lido Shuffle, the amazing song Lowdown, Some Change, What Can I Say, some songs from his latest album A Fool To Care, and more. He’s been a favorite of mine for some years now, but to be honest, up until this year, I was not familiar with a lot of his work. For no real reason, one late night early this year, I was on YouTube and I saw his music video “Heart Of Mine”, from his amazing album Other Roads, and I played it over and over that night. The song may as well be about me because I relate to the lyrics so much.Soon after that, I bought nearly his entire discography (I still need to buy one studio and one live album) and have become a wayyyy bigger fan of his than I was before. His voice really speaks to me, and he’s also a great guitar player, too. He’s been doing this for many years (played guitar for Steve Miller Band before going out on his own) and is still at the top of his game.He told the audience that this was his first time playing Huntington, and I honestly hope it is not his last.If you have never heard this man’s music (I’m guessing most have), please do yourself a favor and do it.And go see him in concert if you get a chance.I cannot recommend this man’s music enough.Well, like I said, if all goes right, this will be my last concert for awhile. It’s been a fun ride for the past 17 years. Now it’s time to hopefully go be a grown up for awhile. But never say never. You may see another review coming from me someday. But until then, love and peace to everyone.I hope you have enjoyed reading this review, as well as all the other reviews I have written, just as much as I have writing them.Take care.Lucas HannonPhoto Gallery (click on thumbnail to view larger image)

My cousin Zachary and I went to a Death Metal concert.
We saw headliners Cannibal Corpse, with openers Cattle Decapitation, Soreption, and Empure.
I’m not a huge fan of Death Metal (Zachary loves it), but I respect it.
And Cannibal Corpse is definitely my favorite DM band.
They are the biggest DM band around, and for mainstream audiences, they are known for being in the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
They, along with the openers, all played very loud, solid, kicking sets.
We both had a great time.
I don’t have a lot to see in this review, but I’ll just end by saying it was fun and I’m glad we went.
