Pulitzer Prize Winner: Bob Dylan Concert Review

    • Date of Concert: November 2, 2016
    • Location of Concert: The Clay Center in Charleston, WV

I saw a Nobel Prize winner last night!! Mr. Bob Dylan!!! He and his band played a solid one hour and 45 minute set. I have been a fan of his since high school, but just never saw him until last night. I was not disappointed. Many people can’t stand his voice, but it’s never bothered me. His discography is amazing. He’s incredible at what he does. He actually didn’t play guitar at all, and only played harmonica once. He held his mic stand a lot, stood in the middle of the band, got into the music, and played a lot of piano (he’s a great piano player). My only complaint is that I wish he could have played more songs. But he played 20 songs, so his set was solid. One more show, and then I’m done until March. I won’t see too many more legends like this man again. Go see him if you get a chance.

    Bob Dylan Set List:

    1. Things Have Changed
    2. Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right

Awesome Rock and Roll: Aerosmith/Slash w/Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators Concert Review

    • Date of Concert: July 22, 2014
    • Location of Concert: Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH

My best friend Jamie and I went to see Aerosmith and Slash Feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

This my 3rd time seeing Aerosmith but my first time seeing Slash/Myles and the Conspirators.

Slash/Myles/The Conspirators opened the show with roughly 45-50 minutes of awesome rock and roll.

I love this group.  This is the best band Slash has had since he was in Guns N Roses (edit:  two years later, he would rejoin GNR but also continue this band too).

Myles Kennedy is one of the best singers of all time.  Yes I said of all time.  Trust me he’s that great.  Seek him out.  And he’s a phenomenal guitarist too.

The band itself is solid as a rock but Slash and Myles to me are the new Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith.  They have such chemistry together.  It’s magic.

In fact, I’ll say that they blew Aerosmith off the stage.

    Yes they did!!

However, Aerosmith were good too of course.

They’re one of my favorite bands ever.

Steven Tyler still is an amazing singer.

Joe Perry and Brad Whitford are phenomenal guitarists.

Tom Hamilton is a great bassist.

And Joey Kramer is one of my favorite drummers ever.

You cannot go wrong with Aerosmith.

Again honest opinion:  I (and Jamie too) think that Slash/Myles blew Aerosmith off the stage.  We both said to each other we could go home after them because we were happy.

But of course, we stayed for Aerosmith and I’m glad we did.

    Great great show.

70s and 80s Classics: Motley Crue/Poison/New York Dolls Concert Review

    • Date of Concert: June 26, 2011
    • Location of Concert: Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH

This was another great show my cousin Zachary and I saw.

The New York Dolls opened the show.

They included original members David Johansen on vocals and Sylvain Sylvain on guitar.

They played some songs from their most recent albums, plus songs from their cult classic first album.

Some people may know of David as an actor and as Dexter Poindexter of the 1980s with the hit song “Hot Hot Hot”.

Very good band and please seek out their music.  Highly influential, but never got past cult status.

    I’m glad we saw them.

    Then Poison played.

This was the second time I had seen them.

Still all original members (Bret Michaels on Vocals and some Guitar, CC Deville on Guitar, Bobby Dall on Bass, and Rikki Rockett on Drums).

This band was one of the kings of the late 80s/early 90s and are always at the top of their game.

I wish they would make more new music (nothing since 2007, although Bret continues to make solo music), but when they play live, they’re always great and a lot of fun.

Then Motley Crue closed the show.

Again, all original members (Vince Neil on Vocals, Mick Mars on Guitar, Nikki Sixx on Bass, and Tommy Lee on Drums).

This was my 5th time seeing Motley (8 as I type this in 2023).

They’re one of my favorite bands of all time.

The last time I saw them in 2009, Tommy could not play the drums because he had an accident, so it seemed to me that he had something to prove this time and played extra hard.

Some give them crap live, especially Vince because of him skipping every other word on a lot of the songs, but it’s never bothered me and he’s always sang enough to satisfy.

I’ve always had a great time seeing them, and I love their albums.  All of them.

Again, great time.  Zachary had a great time too.

I don’t have a lot of pictures to show, and they’re not great, but again, this was a disposable camera, so unless you were super up close, they were never that great.

    Motley Crue Set List:

    1. Wild Side
