The Last Action Heroes: The Triumphs, Flops, and Feuds of Hollywood’s Kings of Carnage by Nick De Semlyen Book Review

The Last Action Heroes:  The Triumphs, Flops, and Feuds of Hollywood’s Kings of Carnage is a great book about movie action heroes of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Released in 2023, Nick De Semlyen has written a very good book about a few of the biggest action heroes of all time.

The action heroes included in this book are Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, Dolph Lundgren, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, and Bruce Willis.

Each star has some of their history chronicled throughout the book, and some even overlap because some of them worked together at certain points in time.

    Lots of great stories here.

If you are a fan of these stars, like I am, then I highly recommend this book.

Awesome All-Star Group: Kings Of Chaos Concert Review

    • Date of Concert: June 21, 2019
    • Location of Concert: Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, OH

Well: I went to another PHENOMENAL concert. At the Fraze Pavilion, in Kettering, Ohio, near Dayton. I saw an all-star band called Kings Of Chaos. This band was started some years ago as a side project when musicians are off from their own projects. So, the lineup has fluctuated over the years. People from Billy Gibbons, Slash, Glenn Hughes, and many more have participated. This year, and for four shows only (this was the third), the lineup includes singers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row) and Lou Gramm (Foreigner)! Guitarists Warren DeMartini (RATT) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N Roses), bassist James Lomenzo (White Lion, Pride And Glory, Black Label Society, Megadeth, John Fogerty) and drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Tony Iommi, Chickenfoot, John Fogerty, just to name a few). This band plays songs of each other’s catalogs, as well as covers of other people’s songs. The band played throughout while the singers would rotate on and off and would come back later. The set started with Dee coming out to sing a few songs, then Sebastian, then Lou, Gilby sang one, Dee returned, then Sebastian, then everyone for the last song. This band is phenomenal, especially Warren DeMartini. I’m a fan of all these people but once again, like I was when I saw RATT in 2007, I was on Warren’s side of the stage (3rd Row this time), and it was a pleasure seeing and hearing him play. He can play anything, as can they all, as you’ll see by the setlist below. I heard every note. It was beautiful. Lou is a legend. One of the best singers ever, and he sang some of his Foreigner songs. Dee sang some TS, RATT, and other songs. Sebastian sang Skid Row, RATT, and other songs. Near the end, Dee ended up grabbing my hand when he was greeting fans up the front. What a moment, because I’m a HUGE fan of his. He’s tweeted me several times and even sent condolences to me in regards to the loss of my Granny. Class act. Sebastian is a true rock and roller, and passionate fan like I am. Has always sang great and still does. Gilby Clarke is cool, James Lomenzo is a solid player, and Kenny Aronoff (nickname Kenny Earnenough according to Sebastian) is a monster player. I can’t say enough about these guys. Great show! My next one is July 5. Love and Peace and thanks to everyone who has sent me condolences about my loss. It’s sad, but life does somehow go on. And like I keep saying, I need things like this concert to keep me going. I hate traveling to and from shows, but the shows always make it all worthwhile. I’m listing the setlist showing what each person sang. Again, the band played all of it. The order may not be quite in sequence but this is definitely the setlist.

    Set List:

Dee-We’re Not Gonna Take It, Wanted Man, Highway To Hell Sebastian-Lay It Down, 18 And Life, Round And Round, Youth Gone Wild Lou Gramm-Cold As Ice, Dirty White Boy, Juke Box Hero, Hot Blooded Gilby-Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door Dee-I Wanna Rock, Real Wild Child (musically it was Rock And Roll). This was a “mashup”. Sebastian-Jack And Diane Everyone-Paradise City

    Farewell KISS?

My favorite band KISS ended their End of the Road (“The Final Tour Ever” for them) tour Saturday, December 2, of 2023.

Now, this is supposed to be the end of KISS as a touring band.

They’ve said this before, though, so we’ll see.

Immediately after the last show, a video was shown showcasing them as Avatars for a new era of KISS.

Now what does this mean?  Will this be a destination attraction? A traveling concert tour? Will it be an IMAX exclusive showing?  Is it an interactive video game/animated movie?  How much will it cost to see?  Will there be many different versions?  Or something else?  Who knows?

I initially was very upset by this announcement, but then I realized that KISS are the kings of merchandising and have shown themselves as superheroes at various points in their career (comic books, movies, cartoons, video games, toys).

So, I see this, whatever it is, as another way to promote themselves as superheroes, particularly to kids.

And it’s only logical that they would do something like this because it’s perfect for them.

And if you look at the videos shown so far about it, on their official website KISSONLINE, then you will see that they are involved in the making of it.

They have donned the motion capture clothes so that the makers of this animation can use their voices, movements and expressions to enhance this viewing experience.

I don’t know what this is yet, but it’s only the beginning of many more merchandising things to come.

I personally want more archive releases, both audio and video.  That’s already been happening, but I want more, and I’m sure I’ll get it.

And I don’t know for sure if KISS is truly done playing real live concerts. But if they are, they had a great 50 year run, made many great albums, and have left behind many great memories for fans, such as myself, to love forever.  As well as tons of things for new fans to get into, which I think these Avatar things are tailor made for them, again particularly kids.

No matter what happens, though, I have been a fan of this band since 1998 and always will be.  I first saw them in concert on December 8 of 1998, and have seen them ultimately 11 times over a 25 year period and have met many of the members.

I love every album and every lineup of the band.

I have no apologies for that.

And I will continue to be a fan until I die.

    I love KISS forever!!

Heavy & Loud!: Amon Amarth w/Carcass, Obituary, & Cattle Decapitation Concert Review

    • Date of Concert: November 27, 2022
    • Location of Concert: Andrew J. Brady Music Center in Cincinnati, OH
    • Openers: Carcass, Obituary, & Cattle Decapitation

My cousin Zachary and I went to see Amon Amarth/Carcass/Obituary/Cattle Decapitation Sunday night in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Andrew J. Brady Music Center. What a great, heavy concert. Cattle Decapitation started the show and they were very good. Obituary then came on and were really good. One of my favorites of the night. Carcass then came on and were solid. This was the second time I’d seen them. Then the main event happened: Amon Amarth!!!! I told my cousin many years ago I would take him to see them play a headline show. I kept my promise. And I just wanted to see them too. They put on quite a show. During a couple of the songs, a lot of the crowd sat down on the floor and acted as if they were rowing a boat. See, Amon Amarth’s gimmick is that they’re Vikings and they’re into Viking lore and so part of their stage show appears that their drum set is on a boat. Knights even came out a couple of times and fought each other. The singer even battled a dragon at one point with a Thor like hammer!!! Aside from very tall people in front of me at times, it was a fun, loud, heavy show. Just how I like it. This was a really cool bill and I enjoyed all the bands, but Amon Amarth and Obituary were definitely my favorites. I have one more show to see this year: W.A.S.P. Nation (Official) and Armored Saint Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio at The KING of CLUBS. I’m actually meeting Armored Saint too which I’m excited about too. That will end my 2022 year of concerts, but I’m already booked for several next year and keep eyeing/waiting for more. Stay tuned.

    • Location of Concert: Charleston Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, WV

I saw Bob Dylan in Charleston, WV Saturday night. I only took 4 pictures because security was strict about that. That’s ok though. It was a very good show. About 90 minutes. Bob mostly played songs from his great latest album called Rough And Rowdy Ways. And he played a few older songs too. He mostly played the piano while he sang. He’s a great pianist. His band is great and everyone seemed to be having fun. Bob even was clowning around with one of his guys when he was introducing the band. What can I say? He’s a national treasure and I’m glad he’s still here making music and making people happy with his music. This was the second time I saw Bob. Many people don’t like his voice but it’s never bothered me. I’ve been a fan since high school. I have two more concerts to see this year (Official Yngwie Malmsteen December 3 and Genesis December 8th!!) Let’s do this!!

I Met Dee!! My Scarefest Weekend Experience

    • Date of Event: September 14, 2019
    • Location of Event: Central Bank Center in Lexington, KY

I went to Scarefest 2019 today in Lexington, Kentucky. There were several cool celebrities there like Lee Majors (who I have met twice, very nice man), Bruce Campbell, Clu Gulager, Mick Foley, and others. But I went there specifically to meet one of my biggest heroes: Dee Snider!! Dee signed all of my stuff. We conversed. He insisted I take pictures of him signing my stuff. He was funny. He was sooo nice to me. I had tweeted Dee on and off a bunch for a few years, and one day this year, I sent him a few pics of the stuff I have of his work (CDs, DVDs) saying I need to figure out what to bring to this event for him to sign. He was blown away by it. Instead of just saying oh that’s cool Lucas or words to that effect, Dee said “You’re hardcore. Bring what you got and I’ll sign all of it”. And he did. I’ve been a fan for 21 years. I sadly never got to see his band Twisted Sister in concert, but I did finally see Dee in 2017 in Northfield, Ohio. And I saw him in Kettering, Ohio this summer with Kings Of Chaos. It was an honor meeting Dee today. He went above and beyond for me, and he didn’t have to. But I will forever appreciate his kindness and generosity. And thank you to Danny Stanton for helping make this happen for me as well. The last thing I said to Dee was that I’m a fan for life. And I am. Another big highlight in my life. This is what I live for.
