    Thank You Melendy Britt!!

Thank you Melendy Britt (She-Ra and many other characters) for the great autographed photo and video message.

I am a huge fan and am grateful that you did this for me.

Yes I know I paid for it (thanks to the company Zobie Authentic Autographs for making it happen) but still I’m very grateful.

I hope I can meet you at a convention/expo someday.

All the best and take care.

Keep On Rocking!!: Y&T Concert Review

My first concert of 2020 was a first time for me.

I FINALLY saw the rock band Y&T (formerly called Yesterday And Today in the 70s).

I was supposed to see them two years ago but sadly I couldn’t make it at the last minute.

I made up for it this time.

Y&T played a very small room underneath a restaurant called  Ludlow’s Garage in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Band leader/lead singer/lead guitarist Dave Meniketti (the last surviving original member) was in SUPER fine form, as was the band, made up of co guitarist John Nymann, drummer Mike Vanderhule, and bassist Aaron Leigh.

    What an amazing rock concert.

They played at about 2 hours and 10 minutes or 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Great sounding room. It was near capacity.

Dave said Y&T had not been to Cincinnati in about 30 years.

He jokingly said don’t blame him.

Hopefully it won’t be another 30.

This band, outside of their diehard fan base, is mostly known for the song Summertime Girls, but trust me, there is more to them than that song.

Look at their setlist, listed below, and pick any of those songs to listen to.

    They have many albums.

    Check them out.

This is a talented band, and Dave Meniketti is a phenomenal singer/guitarist.

I put him up against anyone.

P.S. a lady named Lizza who was in the audience happened to be someone who was a prominent character in two of Y&T’s videos in the 80s (Mean Streak and Don’t Stop Running).

She lives in Cincinnati now and visited the band before the show and was there for the whole show.

Dave gave her a shout out and I happened to see her in a row near me.

    Pretty cool.

And, they have a 2 disc DVD documentary called On With The Show.

No it’s not streaming, but it’s available on their website yandtrocks and at their shows.

Even if you’re not a fan, it’s fun to watch.

I Saw My Favorite SNL Cast Member in Person: Chevy Chase Q&A/Christmas Vacation Screening

I went to Columbus to see National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on the big screen.

    Why you may ask?

Because Chevy Chase himself was there to do a live Q&A afterwards.

The movie is still really funny, and when he came out to talk, he had a lot of stories about that movie, Randy Quaid (he imitated his voice and yes he said “shitter’s full!”), John Candy, John Belushi, Bill Murray and his brother Bryan, who he said is even funnier, Rodney Dangerfield (he quoted Rodney saying “I see a lot of boys. Where are the blowjobs?” Funny.), Fletch, Caddyshack, even Memoirs Of An Invisible Man, as well as SNL stories.

Most of the questions were submitted by audience members before the event.

There were a few hecklers but he handled them well.

It was great to see him in person.

He will always be my favorite cast member of SNL.

For those who may not know, he was initially hired just as the head writer, but when he came up with “Weekend Update” Lorne Michaels made him a cast member of the “Not Ready For Primetime Players”.

He is also a musician who can sing in perfect pitch, plays drums and piano.

He said he used to hang out with famous jazz musicians Bill Evans and Thelonius Monk.

He also played with future Steely Dan founders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (RIP).

He said he’s working on a new Fletch script and his autobiography.

    Fun night.

My last event until at least February or March.

Great end to a mostly great year.

    My GalaxyCon 2019 Experience

I spent the day in Louisville, Kentucky at GalaxyCon Louisville.

    I met wrestler/actor Dave Bautista!!

I’ve been a fan of his since 2007 when I saw him wrestle The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 23 (not in person unfortunately).

He’s now an actor, most famous these days for playing Drax in the Guardians Of The Galaxy movies and a few Avengers movies.

He’s also starred in many other movies like Stuber (very funny), Blade Runner 2049, Marauders (very cool heist movie shot in Cincinnati), Escape Plan 2 and 3 (with Sylvester Stallone!!), Bushwick, and others.

    He’s a very cool guy.

I was able to ask him a question at his Q&A (about Stuber) and he appreciated it.

He talked about upcoming movies, including one on Netflix, Dune remake, maybe a Gears Of War movie in a couple of years (once the script is truly ready he said).

He said he probably won’t do any more Avengers movies and probably not a Guardians 4 movie.

This is because he’s in his 50s now and physically he’s not sure he’s up for them.

But he did say he wants to hopefully do the third one and “finish what he started with the cast and family he loves”.

I had only seen him wrestle in person at a wrestling house show in 2008 (wrestling CM Punk), but had never met him. I’m glad I did!!
    Love this guy!!

I also met George Takei (Mr. Sulu of Star Trek) and got his autograph!!!

He was the last surviving cast member of the original Star Trek that I needed to get an autograph from.

He was nice too but he jokingly gave me crap about my Star Trek shirt (that only shows William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart).

He told me “I’m here right now. Those captains are only here in image”.

I said I’m sorry that I didn’t have a Captain Sulu shirt. But again, it was all in good fun.

I also met wrestler Arn Anderson!!!
I’ve been a fan of his for over 30 years.

When I told him that, he didn’t think I was old enough to be a fan of his for that long.

I also told him he was one of my favorite wrestling villains growing up, and that even when I hated him, I loved him. He said “well that means I did my job”.

And before I left him, I told him he is my favorite member of The 4 Horsemen, too. He said “Good call”.

I also met The Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno!!

    That was very cool.

He still looks to be in great shape.

I attended his Q&A and he talked a lot about fitness, getting fit, and staying fit.

I seriously needed the motivation because I’m soooo out of shape. I don’t expect to look like a body builder, but I need to lose between 30-50 pounds. But anyway, it was great seeing Lou!!

I didn’t meet them but I went to the Q&A of actors Cary Elwes and Chris Sarandon, who both starred in the movie The Princess Bride.

That was a lot of fun. Lots of fun stories. Cary said that movie is the gift that keeps on giving.

I didn’t meet them but I saw many other celebrities such as actor John Cusack, Star Trek The Next Generation actors Michael Dorn (Worf) Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher), Brent Spiner (Data, who I met in September in Cincinnati), Star Trek Deep Space Nine actors Terry Farrell (Dax) and Armin Shimerman (Quark), Brett Cullen (who recently starred in The Joker and many other movies), Wrestlers Ric Flair (who I’ve met a few times), Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Christian (who I met earlier this year in Lexington), and Mark Henry, and others.

Very busy, but fun filled day.

I never have enough money for these events but I did ok.

One more event this year (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation screening/Live Chevy Chase Q&A in Columbus, Ohio (I wanted to go to the Charleston, WV one, but it sold out).

Then I may be done with events until March.

Last Slayer Show I See? Slayer/Primus/Ministry/Philip H. Anselmo And The Illegals Concert Review

    I saw another fun concert.

Most of the bands I had not seen before.

And the headliner I saw for the 7th and final time because in 3 weeks, they are done. Apparently.

First up was Philip H. Anselmo And The Illegals.

Phil is most famous for being the singer of Pantera.

Lately, he and his band have been doing nothing but Pantera songs, which for me, is phenomenal.

Because sadly, I never saw Pantera and sadly never will. That is my biggest concert regret.

But having said that, hearing Phil singing those songs made me feel good, and took me back to the time when Pantera were one of the most important bands in my life.

And his band does a good job playing them.

He was in great spirits and dedicated the set to all the veterans.

Next up was Ministry. Very loud, heavy, but also electronic band.

Main man Al Jourgenson has been doing this a long time and it was great to finally see him and his band.

After that was Primus. Musically, they really stick out like a soar thumb on this tour. But, the crowd loved them and they were fantastic.

Lead singer/bassist Les Claypool is one of the best bassists in history.

    The entire band are phenomenal.

But again, musically, extremely different than say the headliner.

And speaking of the headliner, for the 7th and final time, I saw one of my favorites Slayer!!!

They’ve always been great live and this time was no different.

I love that they have never compromised, unapologetic on the music they’ve made, and have always been great.

They hung around longer than I’ve seen them do at the end, so I think that’s their way of saying goodbye.

Tom Araya, singer/bassist of Slayer, ended by saying “Thanks for hanging out. Thanks for coming. Thank you for being an important part of my life. Goodnight. Adios”.

Throughout it felt like another regular Slayer show, but seeing that brought some finality to the situation.

If they are done in 3 weeks, they’ve had a great career.

If they change their mind like everyone else does, then that’s fine too.

    Slayer!!!!!

I Saw Wolverine In Person: Hugh Jackman Show Review

    What can I say?

I saw a super person in concert.

    His name is Hugh Jackman.

Not only is he a famous movie star. He’s also a talented singer, dancer, storyteller, and just an all around great person.

I saw him perform at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio.

He told a lot of stories about his upbringing, his influences (he spent a whole section of the show paying tribute/acting like fellow Australian singer Peter Allen), got the audience involved (he brought an audience member on stage and interacted with him in a funny way and continuously mentioned the person on and off for the rest of the show), gave drum sticks to little kids, hugged people, sang, danced, tap danced, acted, told jokes, and in a word entertained.

It was a very fun show.

The act is very good. Great production and sound/visuals. Cool song selections (songs from various movies of his and classic musicals/broadway show tunes).

He even had a AC/DC and Van Halen sample going on at one point.

I learned something too: the word Leon means “spirit”. He said Columbus really brought the Leon out.

He truly is a showman, to say the least.

I wish I and really the world for that matter could be as kind and as positive as he is.

This was a very fun event and I’m glad I went.

Two more events and that will probably be it for me in 2019.

Hopefully some cool events await me next year.

I Finally Saw Willie Nelson: Outlaw Music Festival Concert Review

    Disclaimer: I HATE country music.

I always have and I always will.

Having said that, I wanted to finally see Willie Nelson.

    So I did.

I went to his Outlaw Music Festival in Cincinnati.

There were five bands and I went for two of them: Willie and Bonnie Raitt.

The first act, Derek Allan Band, was meh to me.

The second act, Jamestown Revival, was actually good. I can’t say I’ll ever buy any of their music, but they were good.

Bonnie Raitt was great!! She still sings and plays well, and her band is fantastic. I’m glad I saw her.

The next act, Luke Combs, I could care less about.

He’s considered hot stuff by a lot of people and that’s good for them, but I hated having to sit through his set.

It was terrible to my ears. And you know what’s sad? He probably had the best reaction of the night.

Not that Willie didn’t have a great reaction, but I swear many people were leaving during his set.

Seeing Willie Nelson was good. He is still great at what he does, and his band, which is his family, are fantastic. Especially his sister, Bobbie, who plays piano.

This concert was a mixed bag for me but I’m glad I saw Willie and Bonnie. They were great.

I hope they keep going for a long time to come.

Again, I HATE Country music and I always will. But I respect Willie and Bonnie and am glad I saw them.

    Willie Nelson Set List:

    1. Whiskey River/Still Is Still Movin’/Beer For My Horses
    2. Down Yonder

I Met Some Star Trek Stars: My Cincinnati Comic Expo Experience

I went to the Cincinnati ComicCon again.

This was the second time I’ve been to this con.

    It’s pretty cool.

I saw a few celebrities but the ones I really wanted to see and did were Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura on Star Trek) and Brent Spiner (Lt. Commander Data on Star Trek:The Next Generation, it’s four movies, the Independence Day movies, and the upcoming Picard series).

    Both were very nice.

As of next year, Nichelle is apparently not making personal appearances anymore so this was my chance to meet her. I’m glad I did.

She had a great turnout, as she should.

Brent I was supposed to meet last year but he had to cancel. I’m glad I met him today.

I told him how much a fan I am and that I think the Star Trek Nemesis movie (the last Star Trek movie with The Next Generation cast) is underrated and under appreciated. He thanked me and agreed with me.

I also said I’m looking forward to the Picard show, and he said he was looking forward to seeing it too. The last thing he said to me was “Be well”.

Another cool day for me. Especially since I’m a Star Trek fan.

I get to do it again tomorrow when I see Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, and others in concert at Riverbend Music Center, just outside Cincinnati.

I consider that place my home away from home.

I Met Dee!! My Scarefest Weekend Experience

I went to Scarefest 2019 today in Lexington, Kentucky.

There were several cool celebrities there like Lee Majors (who I have met twice, very nice man), Bruce Campbell, Clu Gulager, Mick Foley, and others.

But I went there specifically to meet one of my biggest heroes: Dee Snider!!

Dee signed all of my stuff.

    We conversed.

He insisted I take pictures of him signing my stuff.

He was funny. He was sooo nice to me.

I had tweeted Dee on and off a bunch for a few years, and one day this year, I sent him a few pics of the stuff I have of his work (CDs, DVDs) saying I need to figure out what to bring to this event for him to sign.

He was blown away by it.

Instead of just saying oh that’s cool Lucas or words to that effect, Dee said “You’re hardcore. Bring what you got and I’ll sign all of it”. And he did.

    I’ve been a fan for 21 years.

I sadly never got to see his band Twisted Sister in concert, but I did finally see Dee in 2017 in Northfield, Ohio.

And I saw him in Kettering, Ohio this summer with Kings Of Chaos.

It was an honor meeting Dee today.

He went above and beyond for me, and he didn’t have to.

But I will forever appreciate his kindness and generosity.

And thank you to Danny Stanton for helping make this happen for me as well.

The last thing I said to Dee was that I’m a fan for life. And I am.

Another big highlight in my life.

This is what I live for.

Such a Fun Night!! The B-52s/OMD/Berlin Concert Review

    I had a fun weekend.

First I saw L.A. Guns Saturday night (see other post) and Sunday night I saw Berlin, OMD, and B-52s. All in one night.

First up, though, I actually met the lead singer of Berlin, Terri Nunn.

She was very nice. I wish that her bandmates, bassist/founder/main songwriter John Crawford and guitarist David Diamond, participated in the photo op too, but that’s ok.

I saw all of them rocking out together in concert. But yes, a happy moment.

Berlin started the show. They’re on their 40th anniversary, and they have a new album out called Transcendence.

They played the title track and another new one (I Want You) at this show (both of which are very good and the crowd reacted well to them), as well as Berlin classics No More Words, The Metro, Masquerade, Take My Breath Away (the song everyone knows), Sex (I’m A) which was phenomenal, and a cover of AC/DC’s Highway To Hell.

Terri said that is her favorite religious song. Funny.

Not a long enough set for me, but also good enough. Loved seeing her, John, and David together.

Love this band and these people.

Also, after I got home, Terri replied to a tweet I sent her (see pics).

Very nice woman and PHENOMENAL singer.

I’m glad I finally saw them.

Next up was OMD (Orchestral Manouvers In The Dark).

I was not familiar with a lot of their music, but they were very good and the frontman, singer/bassist Andy McClusky, definitely knows how to work an audience.

The crowd was super hyped up and loved every second of their set.

The rest of the band is rounded out by singer/keyboardist Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper (keyboards and saxophone), and drummer Stuart Kershaw.

Very fun set and I need to check out more of their music.

Last was the B-52s. Like Berlin, they’re celebrating 40 years as a band.

Classic members Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, and Cindy Wilson and their rocking band sure do put on a show.

All their voices have held up, the songs and musicianship are strong, and the visuals, as Berlin and OMD’s visuals as well, are very cool.

This was such a fun concert from start to finish.

Again, this is what I live for people.
    More to come.
