Second Time Around: My Huntington Comic & Toy Convention 2022 Experience

I had a great time at the second edition of Huntington Comic & Toy Convention.

    I went Saturday and Sunday.

I got to see Chuck Norris for the third time (he signed a DVD for me and gave me a great hand shake), Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman), Beau Smith (the writer of Wynonna Earp, one of my girlfriend Mariah Startzman favorites), actor Sam Jones (star of Flash Gordon-Great guy), Jim Shooter (Marvel Comics writer), wrestling tag team The Rock And Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson-Ricky was very kind), and the great Joe Barta IV (one of my mentors) and his great wife V Brittany Barta.

Joe makes old VHS boxes and turns them into notebooks.

The company is called Be Kind Rewind VHS Notebooks Check them out!!

I love going to Comiccons just as much as I do concerts.

Huntington Comic & Toy Convention is run by the same people who do Lexington Comic & Toy Con and own The Inner Geek and I can’t say enough what a great operation they run and a great service they provide to fans.

Thank you so much and let’s do it again next year.

Monster Metal: Doyle and Wednesday 13 Concert Review

My cousin Zachary (really more like my little brother) and Kevin Montavon had a great time at a concert Saturday.

Saw Doyle Wednesday 13, Salem’s Childe, and a local band called Everlasting Godstopper.

All were very good but we were mostly there to see Doyle and Wednesday 13.

Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein is the guitarist of the legendary punk rock band The Misfits but also has a solo band, which is really good.

Definitely more Metal than punk but very good.

Wednesday 13 is definitely more punk rock but great.

    Really fun show all around.

My next concert is Steve Hackett April 28.

Metal Gods: Judas Priest and Queensryche Concert Review

    Woo!

This was my 6th time seeing Priest and 3rd time seeing Queensryche.

Queensryche started the show with a mostly old school set.

I’ll always be a Geoff Tate fan but Todd LaTorre is amazing.

Two original members guitarist Michael Wilton and bassist Eddie Jackson are still great.

Returning guitarist Mike Stone is great.

And newer drummer Casey Grillo plays Scott Rockenfield’s parts very well.

They dedicated Take Hold Of The Flame to Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, who passed away Friday.

Casey’s left kick drum also said RIP Taylor on it.

    Queensryche rules!!!!

Then the MIGHTY Judas Priest came on and played for almost 2 hours, playing a pretty cohesive set from most of their albums.

Rob Halford is one of my favorite singers and heroes and he’s still incredible!!!

Guitarist Richie Faulkner, who had a bad health scare last year, is back with a vengeance.

Touring guitarist and their producer/mixer Andy Sneap is great and he’s playing more solos than he did when I saw them in 2018.

The longest standing member, bassist Ian Hill, is still solid as a rock.

And their longest standing drummer Scott Travis is soooooooo underrated.

And guess what?! I saw guitarist Glenn Tipton!!!!

Since 2018, he’s mostly not performed at the concerts because he has Parkinson’s Disease but he still comes out from time to time and plays part of the encore.

    He did that tonight!!!!!!

Oh, and during their song Desert Plains, they put a picture of Taylor Hawkins up on the screen.

    Awesome!!

    What a great concert!!

I love both of these bands.

This is what I live for.

My next concert is Saturday in Columbus, Ohio when I’ll be seeing As We Die World Tour 2022 – Doyle & Wednesday 13

Heavy and Loud!!: Slaughter Concert Review

I saw Slaughter live in Columbus, Ohio.

A great loud, heavy, rocking concert.

Mark Slaughter still has that amazing voice.

    Bassist Dana Strum is awesome.

    Guitarist Jeff Blando is amazing.

And drummer Will Hunt is a beast.

We got a bonus track they haven’t played:  I Don’t Know by Ozzy Osbourne.

This was in tribute to guitarist Randy Rhoads, who passed away 40 years ago on the day of this concert.

Dana Strum was actually the one who put Randy and Ozzy together.

    A great concert!

I got one of Dana’s picks, even though it has Jeff Blando’ name on it.

I also saw The F-Bomb and South Of Eden, two great local bands.

Jack Russell’s Great White played a rocking show last night in Harrison, Ohio.

The Last Domino: Genesis Concert Review

What can I say? Genesis were great in concert!!

I saw them in Columbus, Ohio December 8, 2021.

Singer Phil Collins, guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford, keyboardist Tony Banks, along with guitarist/bassist Daryl Stuermer, Nic Collins (Phil’s son on drums), and backing vocalists Daniel Pierce and Patrick Smyth put on a great performance.

Phil has had a lot of difficulties in the last several years, but he’s still singing very well and has kept his sense of humor.

And even though he’s mostly sitting these days through concerts, he’s still the consummate frontman entertaining the crowd.

Mike Rutherford is still rocking out and having the time of his life.

    The whole band sounds great.

    Great visuals with the screens.

And the set list is great if you’re a Genesis fan.
